THE ANNOUNCEMENT from Northern Ireland's Roads Service that the A4 from Dungannon to Ballygawley is to be upgraded to a dual carriageway has been welcomed by hauliers.
There is to be a significant upgrading on part of the AS between Aughnacloy and Ballygawley and on a stretch of the A4 further to the west. The project will cost about £80m.
The A5 is part of the main road from Dublin to north-west Ireland; and the Dungannon-Ballygawley stretch of the A4 is Northern Ireland's most dangerous road.
AlanArmstrong, transport manager with Omagh-based heavy haulage specialists Donnell and Ellis, says: "A dual carriageway is long overdue the fact so many people have been killed on it speaks for itself. The BallygawleyAughnacloy road is a disaster.
