• The RTITB announced this week that a driving instructor training unit based on the Board's Wembley HQ, will be opened in May. The unit will instruct experienced heavy goods vehicle drivers in techniques to enable them to prepare drivers for the Moll new heavy goods vehicle driving test.
The two-week-long courses will be of a practical nature, emphasizing "in cab" instructional methods. The syllabus will include:—
Road transport regulations. Vehicle roadworthiness.
Driver records. Roadcraft.
Load security. Accident prevention.
Vehicle security. Skid cortroi.
Basic mechanical knov‘dedge. Driver assessment.
Four specialist staff instructors under a training officer will give tuition in instructional methods on heavy rigids and artics. Eight trainee instructors will attend each
MEM.
Mr. Brian Wilson, the Board's training manager for operative training, said: "We believe that we can do most good by first training the trainers. The first two courses are already fully booked by firms who have specifically wanted this type of training but have not had the facilities or knowledge to provide it for themselves."
