• The difficulties of clearing waste and refuse from the large stores in Norwich was acknowledged before the Eastern LA, Mr. W. P. S. Ormond, by Mr. John Smellie, the city's chief public health inspector.
Mr. Smellie was supporting an application by the Enterprize Window and General Cleaning Contractors Ltd., of Mansell Drive, Old Catton, Norwich, for B licences for two vehicles to clear waste within 25 miles of the city.
In a reserved decision, announced last Friday, Mr. Ormond found there was ample evidence of need for the removal of waste within the city, particularly from stores. But he found no evidence of a similar need outside Norwich and observed: "This can be dealt with when it arises."
He granted the application subject to it applying only to stores and garages in Norwich at which the licensee was engaged on cleaning contracts.
Mr. Smellie said the accumulation of waste and refuse behind large stores was a nuisance in the summer and was a fire hazard.
