• Derbyshire Constabulary staged its first multi-site vehicle check across the county last Wednesday (8 February) and in 188 vehicles found a defect rate of nearly 40%.
Over seven hours examiners from the Vehicle Inspectorate, Customs & Excise and Trading Standards officials found 73 vehicles with defects. Fourteen were immediately prohibited from continuing their journey
and a further 13 were served with delayed prohibition notices.
The VI says the faults included defective brake and steering systems and tyre and lighting defects. At one check three semi-trailers were found with loose wheelnuts. Overloading, 0-licence and tachograph offences were also recorded.
