r a noticeable quiet spell in market, Hino has unveiled its ist Euro-3 8x4 which features nmon-rail diesel power and a >ice of new lightweight chasoptions for payload-con us and mixer rators. The FY2P eight-leg"s Japanese 11-litre straightnow delivers 360hp and 50Nm of torque while cornin-rail fuelling replaces the ?.vious in-line pump system. A ZF Fcosplit 16-speed syn-o box is retained as the stenrd transmission driving Hino's r single reduction back gie. The FY2P has been given
a minor facelift with a new front grille and bumper, while its cab interior has also been given a makeover with a revised dash and seat trim. Other changes include the adoption of plastic air piping throughout, replacing the previous steel. However, in keeping with its traditional no-nonsense spec it retains drum brakes all round, albeit with ABS.
While its eight-loggers were once renowned for their heavy 'muckaway' kerbweight, the advent of the Euro-3 range sees Hino looking to increase its appeal amongst UK buyers, by offering 'Lightweight' and 'Super Lightweight' chassis packs. These will include a combination of the following options: • Alloy air and fuel tanks, • Alloy wheels, • Parabolic front and rear springs, • Exide Maxxima lightweight batteries.
The Super Lightweight chassis is aimed primarily at the mixer and rear-end loader markets and weighs in at an impressive 8,600kgs. It also comes with a "live-drive" pto as standard, mounted at the rear of the engine. The unladen Lightweight 8x4 comes in at 10,500kgs when fitted with a Kelly aggregate alloy body. Nino importer Harris UK reports that the changes to the latest eight-wheelers will also be incorporated into Hino's 6x4 chassis, due to arrive later this year.
• S&J Tippers, based near Buckingham, is one of the first operators to take delivery of the new Euro-3 FY2P. Boss Stan Barfoot bought his first Hine FY275 in 1989 and has run a number of Hines since. S&J currently runs seven Hines, none older than 2001, and Barfoot is reported to be pleased with the performance of the new Euro-3 thick.
