Employing a driver with a Ukrainian driving licence has cost a London company 1755.
Complete Recycling, of Kings Cross Road, pleaded guilty to using the vehicle without Insurance and permitting a driver to drive it without the required driving licence before the City of London Magistrates.
Prosecuting for the Vehicle Inspectorate, Anthony Ostrin said that a 7.5-tonne Mercedes two-axle rigid belonging to the company had been stopped in a roadside check. When questioned, the driver said that he was the holder of a Ukrainian driving licence and admitted that he did not hold a British driving licence. As a result, the driver was uninsured.
Managing director Danit Nagra apologised to the court, saying that he had thought that the driver concerned could drive the vehicle.
The magistrates fined the company 1800 for using the vehicle without insurance and £80 for permitting an unqualified driver to drive It. They also ordered the company to pay £85 towards the costs of the prosecution.
