"ECONOMIST ,,is the name given ECONOMIST a 44-seat service bus designed for light.weight chassis which has been introduced by James Whitson and Co.. Ltd., West Drayton, Middx. Priced at £1,885, the first of this design, mounted on a Sentinel chassis, has been delivered to Messrs. W. J. Simmons and Co., Great Gonerby, Grantham.
The total unladen weight of the vehicle is 6 tons 18 cwt., body weight being 2 tons 3 cwt.
Construction is of the Whitson composite type, the underframe being of hardwood section and the sides, steel section. Alloy box section is used for the roof.
Exterior panels are of 18-g. aluminium. The interior is panelled up to the waist rail in either ply or hardwood as may be specified.
The driver's sfde of the double-panel windscreen can be opened and adjusted to several positions. Six top-sliding portions are fitted in the windows on each side -of the body.
A " jack-knife " entrance door, hung on ball-race channel and rubber section, is incorporated ahead of the
front axle on the near side. The emIrgency door is at the rear. Three large extractor ventilators are let into the roof, and there are inlet vents in the front scuttle and above the windstreen.
Artificial lighting is provided by 11 jellymouid lamps incorporated in the underside of the roof.
There is a rail for standing passengers running along each side of the interior. Stanchions are fitted just inside the entrance.
