• A former World War II tank testing ground now used as a motorcycle scramble course at Bredbury in Cheshire was chosen recently as the first outside location in the UK on which to show the new 100 hp Mercedes/Benz 416 Unimog which, in company with its partners in this range of vehicles, is now being produced at the rate of 1000 per month in West Germany.
The units—marketed in Britain by Mercedes /Benz (United Kingdom) Ltd, and for which Bredbury Motors Ltd is area agent—included in this first North West Unimog exhibition not only this versatile front and rear winch four-wheel-drive five-cab crew 45deg tipping model but also the 406 with Atlas 3001 Crane, the 421 with spreader hopper and the 406 with drawbar trailer. Attachments which can be fitted to this range for applications such as fire-fighting, snow clearance, towing heavy loads and for working in difficult terrain, were also on view.
