ALTHOUGH in the past, the Swedish firm of Scania has tended to favour a single-drive bogie for its six-wheelers it would seem (writes Graham Montgomerie) that a 6 x 4 model will be making its appearance shortly — possibly in time for Earls Court. Scania has always maintained that a 6 x 2 truck can perform as well as a 6 x 4 on loose ground if a bogie lift is used, but it seems that the pressure from operators has caused a change in policy. The model chosen is likely to be the 86 version from Scania. The move will provide an integrated European, Scandinavian and Middle Eastern transport network for UK manufacturers with a return load facility for haulage contractors.
In the UK Silver Roadways will act as agents for Union Professionnelle des Transports Publics Routiers (UPR) of Orleans. Silver Roadways will be represented at UPR's 32 branch offices in France.
UPR is the nominated road carrier for French Rail and has partners and associates in West Germany, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Iran, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Finlancl and Holland.
