COMPACTORS of Uxbridge were runners-up in the 1976 Technological Innovation Award presented by Technical Development Capital Ltd, a subsidiary of ICFC. They received the .award for their new Sercompaetor system, claimed to save councils a lot of money because it can compact refuse in normal builders' skips up to a ratio of 6:1.
The compactor can be used on one skip or on the carousel principle on any number of skips. Mr G. Sercombe, managing director of the company, told CM this week that the prototypes had already proved themselves in service and he anticipated going into full production at a very early date.
The 'compactor is suitable for 12 to 20yd skips and can be powered either by an electric motor or diesel engine.
According to Mr Sercombe this is the first compactor of its kind in Europe and he claims that the initial cost of around £4,500 can be more than saved in the first year.
