NO great changes in the arrangements for school transport can be expected until Britain's financial position improves.
This was the message given last week to MPs who have long been pressing for the Government to take some action.
The "no action" announcement came from Miss Margaret Jackson, Under-Secretary for Education, who said that Mr Mulley, the Minister, had no plans for further consultation.
Miss Jackson said that the response to the consultative document on school transport had revealed widespread opposition to the introduction of a charge for pupils now receiving free transport. WEST Midlands Transport has opened a new rail-bus interchange at Marston Green It lies on the BirminghamCoventry rail line and four bus services will feed passengers to and from trains, The PTE hopes that the success achieved elsewhere in the West Midlands to encourage commuters and shoppers to use buses to connect with trains will be a pointer towards greater usage of the interchange.
