• Barrow-in-Furness-based Brady Distribution has introduced drivers' league tables in a bid to encourage best practice and fuel economy.
The move follows a sixmonth trial of VeMIS driving aids on three vehicles—a Mercedes 1835 Actros, a Scania 4 Series and an ERF EC11— which revealed discrepancies between drivers.
For example, on an ERE EC11 which was doubleshifted. Brady claimed that some drivers tended to rev the engine and leave it idling for long periods.
Operations director Martin Wainwright said drivers recognised the value of VeMIS as a tool to help them achieve good fuel economy.
"To ensure we continue to maintain their interest we are planning to publish regular league tables with an incentive of an annual cash prize to the driver achieving the highest standards."
