18 to 26-tonners say dealers DEALERS AROUND the country report declining interest in used 18-tonners."Boxbodied 18-tonners have always been a problem — to be honest! doubt if there is a genuine used market for them, no matter what make they are —but we're now seeing a fall-off in interest in curtainsiders," says Phil Holmes, of Scania dealership Keltruck.
"Examples with 24ft bodies are no longer acceptable; everybody wants 26ft bodies.
There's more interest in fridges, dropsides, and at beds at 18 tonnes, but, of course, there ren't that many around." Brian Morris, of Renault dealership Woodwards Truck & Van Centre, agrees that "18-tonners do seem to be struggling a bit. It's a sector that appears to be in the doldrums". Are buyers switching away from 18-tonners in favour of 26-tonners? "I know of a couple of cases where that's happened," says Morris.
-This year we've had one major new vehicle customer who has always bought 18-tonners split his order between the two weights,"says Holmes.
-We're getting a lot of inquiries for 26tonners," says Ralph Porter, of Cardiff Daf. "Ideally, they want 310hp; many want cranes."
