HOLDING A SATURDAY open day at its Tilbury depot has paid off for Maritime Transport and its used truck disposal activities, says executive Matt Heath.
With a stock of used CVs on its website (www.secondhandtrucks.co.uk), the haulier has taken the unusual step of guaranteeing work to buyers of its fiveyear-old ex-fleet Scania R114 380hp tractor units. As a result over 50 prospective customers attended the open day in just five hours, Heath reports, and six of them signed up to a deal.
"We had a mixture of people attending," he adds. "Some were owner-operators, while some were employed drivers looking to set up on their own.
"We had our subcontractor resources manager on site to talk to them along with our finance manager," Heath explains. "Finance tends not to be a problem because the Scan ias are quite affordable. In fact, they're the ideal start-up truck," Maritime plans to hold a similar event in the autumn.
