• If any other professional body wished to join the Institute of Traffic Administration, it would be welcomed, said the loTA national chairman on Saturday. Mr. F. C. Simpkins, speaking at the national conference banquet, was referring to a suggestion in the technical Press (CM May 2) that a first step towards the gradual merging of the professional institutes was likely to come through a common education policy.
Earlier the president, Lord Merrivale, had welcomed statements in the principal speech by MoT Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Bob Brown that the Government wanted the fullest freedom for transport and believed in the absolute necessity of competition. If that was what the Government really intended, remarked Lord Merrivale, then some of the Opposition's fears, and those of the industry, were groundless.
