Even this early in the season, the lists for the National Final of the Lorry Driver of the Year competition are filling with proven contenders. That 22-year-old veteran, J. C. Kendrick, is a finalist for the fifth year in succession and after his class win at Liverpool said this was positively his last shot at the national title. Perhaps even more significant, the 1966 national champion is a finalist this year, having quietly won Class Fl at St. Austell. This is A. J. Stanaway, one of Len Matthews' Heavy Transport boys.
From Scotland, too, there are some repeat performers, J. Scott and D. Downie of Freightliners Ltd. having been class winners at Dunfermline.
