A NORTHERN IRISH heavy haulage firm has just completed a massive project to transport sections of wind turbines to a site in the Scottish Borders.
Mar-Train Heavy Haulage has been transporting the towers — each weighing 100 tonnes and measuring up to 12.2m in length — from Blyth Docks to Blackhill Wind Farm near Duns.
The company has been working on the project for the past two months — in all it has transported 44 of the tower sections along the 140-mile route.
Mar-Train has been using two Goldhofer modular trailers to handle the move.
The trailers are worth nearly £400,000 apiece. They run on 28 tyres and are hauled by Volvo 8x4 tractor unit running at a GVW of 60 tonnes.
