• BOC's initial investment includes about £300,000 for a dedicated filling station, which could supply a fleet of 40 to 50 vehicles. Also, the boil-off gas from the LNG tank can be compressed to fuel CNG-powered vehicles. Gas is supplied by BG, parent company of Transco whose LNG-powered Iveco was featured in CM 2-8 October.
Fuel is dispensed from a fairly conventional-looking pump, at a temperature of around 160°C. Protective gloves and a faceshield are required, but driver training takes only a short time—and most of BOC's drivers are already experienced in handling cryogenic liquids such as the liquid nitrogen used in some refrigeration systems.
