• ERF EC12 4x2 tractive unit. GTW: 32,500kg. Gearbox: Eaton Twin Splitter. Fuel tank: MVE double-wall 400-litre tank, fabricated from 6mm stainless steel. Maximum operating pressure 230psi. Exhaust system: Eminox vertical silencer with twoway oxidation catalyst.
The trucks have a range of about 450 miles, while the vacuum-insulated tank and other equipment mean a weight penalty of around 350kg over a diesel. But this is much better than the 300-mile range and 980kg penalty of the earlier compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle.
LNG has a more consistent methane content than CNG, so the engine can be tuned for more power and better efficiency.
