A ROW has broken out in Hampshire over the refusal of the County Council to ban heavy vehicles from three of the busiest roads in Portsmouth.
Local residents want lorries banned from the roads, now that M275 gives access to Portsmouth city centre.
Despite backing from the City Council, Hampshire County Council's traffic management sub-committee has decided not to ban vehicles from the roads after advice from local police.
Now, local councillors fear that the new motorway will become a white elephant unused by drivers going into the city centre.
The original proposal put before the county council was for an experimental six-month ban on heavy vehicles using Twyford Avenue, Stanshaw Road and Northern Parade, Portsmouth.
And this is an area soon to be declared a noise abatement region.
