A NEW high-powered variant of the Daimler-Benz "Dusseldorf" range of integral vans makes its appearance at the Frankfurt show this week. It is the L613D model powered by the 97kW (13013hp) OM 352 six-cylinder diesel engine — the first time a six-cylinder unit has been made available in this vehicle.
The engine is matched to a five-speed synchromesh gearbox of the type fitted to the medium Mercedes vehicles. As well as a higher capacity front axle, and larger brakes as standard, the L613D has air-over-hydraulic brakes with load sensing as optional extras.
There are no plans to sell this model in the UK just yet, but Mercedes-Benz (UK) Ltd has said "it is possible that it may be introduced during 1978."
The Dusseldorf range reached a significant production milestone recently with the building of the 300,000th vehicle of this type since 1967.
