ANGRY OPERATORS are still reporting long delays at Felixstowe docks despite promises by port management that things would improve after the holiday season.
Barry Cannell from Norwichbased Cannell Transport reckons he spends two days a week waiting to book in, and the situation is getting worse: "It is absolutely horrendous the way hauliers are treated. 1 had five trucks and I'm now down to one...the delays are putting operators out of business." Another operator says it's becoming a health and safety issue: "It's every man for himself at the docks. There are not enough staff when 150 trucks are trying to push through to get to the gates."
However, Paul Davey, corporate affairs manger at Felixstowe, says:"There may be the odd one or two operators that face a delay but this is not endemic. Currently turnaround time at Trinity Terminal is about 40 minutes and Landguard less than half and hour."
