PALL-EX'S WASTE recycling initiative is providing additional revenue streams for members and helping to win new business, the pallet network claims.
Adrian Russell. Pall-Ex MD, says five members have been trialling a return recycle system called Eco Drive for the past 16 months Under the initiative, a haulier will deliver goods to a company, and collect their recyclables. then condense them and sell them.
Russell is also hopeful of signing a deal with a "major retailer" to use Eco Drive in the near future.
Hull-based CJ Express has taken part in the Eco Drive scheme since May 2009 and has processed 1,002 pallets of cardboard and 190 cardboard bales since.
Nick Carter, MD at CJ Express, adds: "This scheme is a a unique selling point. We can sell the bales on the commodity market providing us with extra revenue, while our customers are spending less on disposing of the waste themselves.
"The service helped us retain customers during a difficult period, as well as win new business."
