Firm gets OK to use centre
A TIPPER company has been granted permission to use an operating centre adjacent to a 17th-century church, despite claims that site activity had caused subsidence.
Crowborough, Sussexbased Go Green Recycling had applied for a licence for three rigid tippers.
A traffic examination revealed that although the site, which abuts St Michaels and All Angels church, was suitable, redevelopment by the landowners had damaged the church grounds. Further vibrations from vehicles and plant could cause more damage.
Churchwarden Denis Emery claimed that noise and dirt would ruin the users' enjoyment of the church.
However South-Eastern and Metropolitan Traffic Commissioner Mary Kane noted Wealden Council had not objected to the application and that the structural problems were being dealt with under a Dangerous Structure Notice.
She added: The operating centre is suitable on an environmental basis, provided conditions as to restricted movements and hours are imposed and the undertakings are carried out."
