The first meeting of council of this body was held at the registered offices, Cecil Chambers East, 86, Strand, W.C., last week, when there was a full attendance, the only absentee being Mr. K. H. Buchanan (London Power Omnibus Company). The members of council present were : Messrs. R. Bell (London Motor Omnibus Company), H. P. G. Brakenridge (London Road Car Company), F. C. A. Coventry (Great Western Railway Company), W. Flexman French (Sussex Motor Road Car Company), W. M. Hodges (London and District Motor Omnibus Company), George Pollard (Birmingham Motor Express Company), P. Frost Smith (Thomas Tilling, Limited), W. Turner Smith (Eastbourne Corporation) and W. Spiller (London General Omnibus Company). Mr. F. C. A. Coventry was elected chairman of the Society, and Mr. R. Bell was appointed to the vicechair. New members were admitted, and various important matters of business dealt with. It was decided to hold a series of meetings during the coming winter session, to which associates of the society, although not engineers or engineer-managers to motor omnibus undertakings, will be admitted. Papers will be read at these meetings, and discussions held, on subjects of interest to users and manufacturers alike, such as tyres, ignition, transmission, lubrication, repairs, training of drivers and other matters of equal moment. Notices will shortly be issued to the whole of the motor industry connected with the manufacture of vehicles or parts for motor omnibuses, to acquaint them of the programme of the society and to afford them the opportunity to join as associates. It was also resolved to request the Motor Union of Great Britain and Ireland to adopt a recommendation that evidence should be given before the Royal Commission in support of a right of appeal before an engineer-inspector of the Local Government Board, or other competent authority, in any case where any local anthority refuses to license motor omnibuses to ply for hire.
