• King Trailers' new five-axle low-loader delivered two sewer tunnelling sections to the Republic of Ireland in its first long-distance trip.
Kent-based construction company Nuttall used the GIL 128/5HS, first seen at SED 2000, to take the 54-tonne sections to Cork via Liverpool. The delivery was the last of 20 trips needed to transport the parts that make up a 60m-drilling rig to tunnel under the River Lee.
Gross trailer weight is almost 128 tonnes, giving a potential payload of 100 tonnes at 20km/h. Kingpin-loaded weight is 45 tonnes with each rear axle rated at 16.5 tonnes.
The trailer is 21.4m long and 2.9m wide with 210mm ground clearance. Main deck is 7.92m long and the rear deck 7.32m. The trailer has two air-operated S-cam drum brakes with load sensing and ABS. The delivery was made to Cork Main Drainage in association with Pettit Project Design and Management.
