• by Colin Barnett The Renault-Vauxhall joint project to replace the Trafic/Arena models has been revealed, before the official launch at next month's IAA Show at Frankfurt.
Renault has kept the Trafic name while the Vauxhall/Opel version will be called the Vivaro.
Renault agreed that it was considering developing a Nissan-badged model, although this is not in the present joint agreement. The new range, code-named X83 until now, will be built at the IBC plant at Luton and will go on sale early next year.
The 2.8-tonne van will be available with wheelbases of 3.1m and 3.5m, with payload capaci
ties up to 1,200kg and load volumes up to 6m3. A passenger version will be available later. Engines will be Renault designs—a 1.9-litre common-rail turbo
diesel rated at 80 and 100hp, and a 2.0-litre 16-valve petrol engine of 120hp,
