• ERF's new joint venture with Isuzu to build all the N-Series trucks for Europe (CM 10-16 Dec) will safeguard existing jobs at the Sandbach and Middlewich plants.
The dedicated line at Sandbach will take over assembly when the Leyland Motors contract ends in late summer. It is gearing up to produce around 2,000 3.5-8.0-tonne trucks a year, with at least 50% expected to be sold in the UK.
Isuzu Motors Europe is rapid ly expanding its network, with new outlets in Croatia, Holland, Italy, Poland and Spain.
A number of manufacturers throughout Europe were considered before the Cheshire outfit was chosen. Nikki King, managing director of Isuzu Truck (UK) says: "We're absolutely delighted to be joining up with ERFit's a dream come true for us."
The [sum deal comes hard on the heels of ERF's joint venture with the Turkish BMC concern to market its budget 17-tonner.
