• A white receptionist has won a case of racial discrimination against her bosses, Gwentbased truck and van rental firm Weathersfield, after they told her not to hire out vehicles to Asian or black people. The Court of Appeal in London heard last Thursday that Veronica Sargent was told by her employers that the firm ran a "special policy".
The court heard that she was told: "We have to be careful who we hire the vehicles to. If you get a telephone call from any
coloureds or Asians you have to tell them there are no vehicles available. You can usually tell them from their voice."
Sargent had already won £5,000 compensation from an industrial tribunal
in Cardiff for construt missal under the Race 1 Act after she left the after refusing to carry instructions.
