THE King system pneumatic-discharge non-tipping bulk-powder articulated tanker—exhibited for the first time at the 1966 Commercial Motor Show by the makers, W. P. Butterfield (Engineers) Ltd., Shipley, Yorks.—had its latest test this week.

The machine was employed by the operators, Hargreaves Transport Ltd., of Leeds, to unload about eight tons of meal to a height of 40 feet at the flour mill of James Bowman and Sons Ltd., of Hitchin.

This was accomplished and cleaning out completed in about 45 minutes.

Other materials handled by the machine over the past five months include tripolysulphate, limestone, heavy soda ash, fertilizer, iron oxide and cement.

It is notable that meal is a particularly difficult material to unload pneumatically because it tends to "bridge" in the discharge ducts.

.PERKINS plans to increase its hold on world markets during 1967. Since 1963 its world sales of engines, excluding those of overseas associates and licensees, have increased from £42.2m. to more than £53m.
