trying to steal a load of brandy from another truck parked nearby in Cumbria. The incident happened at a lay-by on the northbound carriageway of the A74 near Metal Bridge at around lain last Thursday (10 July).
A Cumbria police spokesman says: "A driver saw three men trying to break into a truck parked in front. They spotted him looking at them, dragged him from his cab and assaulted him. They then slashed the sides of his truck and tried to steal his cargo before driving away. The truck driver went to a nearby farm to raise the alarm."
A man was later arrested in connection with the incident.
