The latest annual report and accounts of the motorbus department of the Eastbourne Corporation are of more than passing interest, and we reproduce them in extenso pages 297-299). Eastbourne originally intended to have electric traction, and two schemes were considered ; one, for a route length of 3,170 yards with seven trams, was to have cost £30.000; a revised estimate, for a route length of only 2,200 yards with four tramcars, was to have cost £20,000. To-day, after seven completed years of working, the ratepayers own 16 motorbuses, a well-equipped depot and ample "spares," in respect of which the capital debt stands at only £11,806, whilst the seventh year of working shows a profit, and this in spite of handicaps inseparable from the ownership of a fleet in which there is a large proportion of small and early-type vehicles.
