Sir Frederick has been on the board of NBC since April 1971 and was appointed chairman of the company in January 1972. He was reappointed for a second term of office in November 1976.
Born in Yorkshire, Sir Frederick was educated at Felstead and Cambridge University before serving in the Fleet Air Arm during the war.
The 50-year-old Knight joined the family chemical company, Croda, in 1947, and became chairman in 1960 before changing the name to Croda International.
Also knighted in the list was Ransome Hoffman and Pollard chairman and chief executive George Barlow.
Department of Transport permanent secretary Peter Baldwin received the OBE, and Strathclyde Regional Council's director of roads John Armour is awarded the CBE.
