LABOUR MP Louise Ellman has hung onto her position as chair of the House of Commons Transport Committee, following secret ballots by MPs last week for the top spots on all the House of Commons select committees.
It is the first time the coveted posts have been elected in this way after reforms were brought in to reduce parliamentary patronage.
Other members of the Transport Committee will be appointed in the next few weeks and the Committee will then meet to discuss its timetable and business.
Ellman took over the post of chair in May 2008, succeeding the late Gwyneth Dunwoody.
