II Contractors working on the Selby bypass had to perform a tricky operation this weekâmanoeuvring six 25-tonne beams into place to form a new bridge.
500-tonne mobile crane was required for the lift forming a structure that will carry the 144m bypass over the main Selby-Doncaster train line.
Alan Begg, Highways Agency project manager, says: "The first stage of the operation was to place the bridge deck, In three sections, onto three pairs of supporting beams. These were then lifted one at a time into place on top of the supporting piers to form the bridge.
The whale operation went very smoothly and we're pleased with the result."
