• Skids minister Matthew Hancock has made an extra £20m available to the new Traineeships programme, which began in August. Aimed at 16 to 23 year olds, traineeships last up to six months and provide preparation for interviews and help with CV writing; support to improve English and maths skids; and a high-quality work placement. • Heywood, Lancashire-based logistics firm Yearsley Group has started taking delivery of the first of 26 new trucks being added to the fleet to cope with demand. The trucks, all 6x2 Euro-5 Mercedes-Benz Actros tractors, will be running at 44-tonne GVW and will be based around Yearsley's 13-site network as well as a dedicated NDC it manages for one customer.
• Suckling Transport has won a five-year contract renewal with Phillips 66 to provide fuel distribution services to Jet petrol stations in the South, as well as being re-awarded the contract for Scotland. The Essex business will take on all employees from the incumbent operator under Tupe regulations when the new contract starts on 18 November.
• Premier Logistics will shortly begin offering a refused loads service at its new 200,000ft2 home in Coalville, Leicestershire. It took possession of the new site this week. 'We're a mile off junction 22 of the Ml," said commercial manager Mark Steel. "We see a lot of scope for helping out operators travelling into, for example supermarket DCs, from the extremities of the UK."
