• A south-west Wales haulier is shutting his operation with the loss of eight drivers' jobs after deciding there is no future for him in the industry. Winston Davies, owner of Llanwrda-based Trevor Davies and Sons, which was set up 40 years ago by his father, says: "I can't even see the tunnel, let alone the light." Davies, who has worked at the firm for 30 years, says that the combination of competitors taking contracts from him and offering cheaper rates and higher diesel prices has led to the need for closure.
The company had a fleet of eight vehicles and its main business was in timber transport. An auction of the vehicles will be held in Llanwrda on 26 September organised by
Commercial _ Vehicle Auctions of Doncaster.
