A NOTEWORTHY design for a 1-1 delivery van based on a Commer 30-cwt. chassis was on view this week at an exhibition held at the School of Motor Body Building, Little Titchfield Street, London, W. 1. The prize-winning drawings for various types of vehicle in a competition held by the Institute of British Carriage and Automobile Manufacturers were exhibited, together with successful pieces of joinery, welding, and sheet-metal work.
The design, which was awarded first prize in its section, was made by Mr. R. R. Osborn, New Eltharn, London, S.E.9. The vehicle was a forward-control type, with sliding doors to the driver's cab and roller shutters at the sides and rear.
A design by Mr. B. H. Bennett, of Stanrnore, for a left-hand-drive singledecker for shipment in knocked-down condition, won first prize in its section. The chassis selected was an A.E.C. 33seater and the conditions of the competition stated that the vehicle was for operation in a sub-tropical country. There was, therefore, a liberal supply of ventilators. Sliding doors were incorporated and the vehicle had a smart practical appearance.
Hull Corporation is considering the reinstatement of the central bus depot, which the city engineer estimates may involve an outlay of about £100,000.
