Foden's 6x,4. is a wellbuilt, light, robust unit that delivers a high payload and low fuel consumption, and it doesn't disappoint while working in demanding conditions. The adoption of Daf's steel cab gave an uplift to the Foden image and boosted its sales figures. Most consider the earlier 3000 Series GRP cab to have been a bit on the small side but the new generation model corrects this criticism. Any similarities between the Da f product and Foden end at this point, as Foden has its own chassis, suspension and choice of proprietary engines. Engine choice across the Alpha range is split about equally between the two US engine manufacturers, but within the construction sector, where the name is better known than in haulage, there is a greater preference for the Caterpillar engine. At Leyland, Paccar now produces the entire Foden product line. It's one of the most modern plants in Europe, working to Paccar's Six Sigma quality standards; standards which also apply at dealer level. Foden has r6 main dealers and a further 49 service dealers, so backup is never far away and its parts prices are among the most competitive in the country.
