Exposure to 2-pack isocyanate paints can cause long-term, life-threatening illness.
In spray mist or vapourised form, they can cause or worsen existing asthma and direct skin contact may cause dermatitis.
Used mainly in primers and lacquers, such spraying has the HSE's highest exposure rating and is one of the main causes of occupational asthma and vehicle sprayers have an 80 times higher risk of getting it than any other worker.
Every year over 50 such sprayers are diagnosed with isocyanate asthma and have to leave the industry
