POLICE HAVE LAUNCHED an investigation after a driver from E Nixon and Son died when another truck operated by the company collided with his cab during a job in Cheshire. David Astley, 56, was at the Tanhouse Lane industrial estate in Widnes when the incident happened last month. Ambulance crews and police attended the scene, but were unable to save Astley. The other driver was uninjured.
A Cheshire Police spokeswoman says: “HM Coroner and the Health and Safety Executive have been informed and a coroner’s file will be prepared.” E Nixon and Son has authorisation to run a total of 32 vehicles and 25 trailers from sites in Ellesmere Port, Chester and Stoke.
It operates bulk tippers and supplies sand, gravel and limestone to customers.
