MEGOTIATIONS are now at an
11 advanced stage in the development of a regular road/rail tanker trailer service between France and Great Britain using U.F.R. semi-trailers similar to those pictured on the left.
The French commercial concern G.T.T.M. (Groupement Technique des Transporteurs Mixtes Rail/Route), with the help of the London office of French Railways, is taking the necessary steps with certain British agencies to bring this about.
Some time during l965--and the indications are that this will happen before next summer—wines, lard in liquid form, oils and non-hazardous chemical products will be transported across the Channel using the DunkirkDover ferries. From Dover the trailers, on French Railway wagons, will complete the rail part of the journey at London's
Bricklayers Arms goods depot, where arrangements are being made for their onward distribution to destinations all
over the country by road. N.H.T.
Stop Dock Delays'
THE Export Council for Europe last week demanded urgent Government action to stop delays at docks.
Port authorities did not seem to realize how the export trade was being damaged, the Council maintained, adding: " The ports, whether through the fault of management, or of labour, or of both, are failing the export needs of the nation."
Efforts by industry to increase exports were useless if lorries were to be refused at the docks. The Council had consistently believed that transnort would be the most important single factor in determining success of our export effort.
