Importing food
New regulations* replace existing UK provisions regulating the control of certain types of imported food. Food may not be imported into Great Britain if it fails to comply with food safety requirements; the regulations specify the means of enforcement and possible penalties, which include a fine and/or imprisonment. *Imported Food Regulations 1997 (SI 1997 No 253 costs .£2.40, from the Stationery Office, phone 0171 873 0011).
