The manufacturers that took part in this test could be confident that even if their truck did not win, it would get a fair chance. The 1,000 Point Test was carried out with great precision, and while we can't explain every procedure here, there are a couple of examples to give you an indication of the care we took.
First, in working out fuel consumption, the diesel temperature is measured in the vehicle's tank, as this factor can significantly throw out the readings.
Second, all the testers drive in exactly the same way around the route every time, even when they switched trucks. That even means accelerating and braking at the same points along the route.
