• Following last week's story in which operators were blamed for 1,300 bridgebashing incidents last year, an ex-driver has complained that at least one Incident was due to an incorrectly marked bridge.
The bridge in Bristol, which was three inches lower than marked, was hit by a car transporter but the sign has still not been changed. It is currently marked at 14ft 3in on the bridge itself—but at 14ft Bin on the roundabout just before it.
Bristol-based Glyn Haines says he alerted Bristol City Council to the problem last summer but checked on the bridge again this week after reading the latest statistics.
Ifs always the drivers who get blamed, even though the bridge might be incorrectly marked or have been repaired so that the height has been changed," says Haines.
Bristol City Council says it cannot understand why the sign has not been changed, but claims it has no record of any complaints.
it adds that it will now examine the bridge, which is just behind Temple Meads Station in Bristol.
