• A merger between Midlandsbased distribution operators Draycote Continentale Transport and Panic Transport (Contracts) will result in job gains, not losses, according to Kevin Johnson, managing director of the new operation.
The two companies, which operated their UK and Continental transport and warehousing services from the same industrial estate in Dunchurch near Rugby, will trade under the Draycote Continentale Transport banner with a combined annual turnover of £4m.
The new operation has 40 vehicles and employs 55 staff. Johnson, who was previously Panic's managing director, says five new employees have already been recruited and another five are being sought.
The new company will continue to operate from the two warehouses in Dunchurch until June, when it plans to move to a 9,290m2 site in Rugby.
Johnson says Draycote intends to consolidate its presence in the pharmaceutical, paper, magazine and confectionery sectors. According to Johnson, the new company will also be on the look-out for acquisitions in the Midlands.
