Volvo's new FM range, which replaces the heavier end of the FL model line-up, has been designed for tailoring and adapting to a wide range of different applications.
Volvo's new FM range, replacing the 11.7, FLio and n12 model line-up, comes with a wide choice of options which enables it to be tailored to a variety of applications from regional haulage to waste management duties and heavy construction operations.
Available both as a tractor or rigid the FM comes in a variety of wheelbases and axle configurations and with a choice of cabs. Three engines are offered with powers spanning a range from 250 to 42ohp.
Based on the successful FFIr2 range. with which it shares nearly 8o per cent of its components, the FM has been designed with the emphasis on lower operating costs, improved reliability and more driver comfort. Extended mileage between servicing and improved diagnostics are aimed at reducing maintenance costs and increasing uptime while more efficient engines matched to a cab with less drag promise to lower fuel bills.
Volvo is also using improved diagnostics to tailor the FM's maintenance requirements to the application, with intervals on an FMr2, for example, up to as high as 75,000km or six months.
Three cab options are available: a short day cab for local distribution, a long version with overnight accommodation for trunking and a full-blown Globetrotter with an interior standing height of I.93m.
