I have to say If I was looking for something to Jack up a 7.5-tonne truck, a cardboard box is not the first object that would spring to mind. Yet amazingly Rexam Corrugated Heavy Duty has proved it can be done. The Hinckley-based firm from Leicestershire were aided and abetted In this feat by Paynes Garages— also from Hinckley—who had faith enough to risk the loan of a new 134,000 Ford Iveco Cargo 75E15 for the experiment To secure the vehicle on to the packing case, it was necessary to find its centre of gravity and to cut out the cardboard to accommodate its ancillary components, The truck was lowered on to the case which measured 1,500x 800x1,400mm. at Paynes' Coventry workshop. The cardboard is made up of two triple-wall corrugated boards laminated in a process that is claimed to make it three times stronger than anything else previously constructed. Aside from holding up trucks, the cases are intended for transport and storage of products ranging from bulk liquids to heavy engineering components.
