The EU has committed a total of €8bn (£7bn) to its TEN-T (Trans-European Transport Network) programme for the period covering 2007 to 2013,
The project aims to support studies and works in member states that contribute to "improving the European transport network and increasing mobility'.
Jo Tanner of the FiA says: "As the global supply chain grows, the idea of having a joined-up approach to multmodal funding is more important."
