• With sales at a high, are we looking at a growing pare of commercial vehicles? Not necessarily, according to Iveco Ford managing director Giuseppe Franchi, who points out that there have been a near-constant 450,000 CVs on Britain's roads since 1950.
But during that time the amount of goods carried each year (expressed in tonne-kilometres) has grown by a factor of more than four "which shows just how efficient the road transport system has become", according to Franchi. And while he says that Iveco "would welcome a stronger rail network capable of making a worthwhile contribution to the goods transport system," he adds that "final goods distribution will inevitably be by road".
